i have a raised sub floor i installed stone tile on top the grout is cracking because of the flex from the sub floor how cani fix it

If your tile is not installed over the proper subfloor (concrete or fiber board)you may not be able to fix it.
You can try to regrout the floor in hopes that the flex in the floor has minimized to an amount that will not affect the grout.

Help! I am considerating a new kitchen floor. The floor is 30-35 yrs solarium. At that time 70's it was layed over the existing thin linoleum. It is a thick inlay. How difficult would it be to remove it for a ceramic tile floor or can ceramic tiles be layed on top of existing floor? The solarium is the old thick cushioned tile.

You have a couple of options with this situation.
First, you can try to remove the existing floor and then install the proper subfloor and then the ceramic tile. I wouldn't be able to tell you how difficult the removal would be without seeing the floor.
Your second option is that you may be able to install the proper underlayment directly over the existing floor. Once again, I would need to see the floor to give you a solid answer. You would need to see if you could build your floor up without causing issues to your appliances. And you need to look at how sound the existing floor is as to whether or not you can go over it.

I have three kids and would like to know which type of engineered hard wood flooring would work for us. My kids are 11,9 & 2yrs. We plan to stay in our home 5-6 more years and we do not want to
replace the flooring again. I am also considering Wilsonart hand scraped laminate line.

You can use an engineered hardwood just as long as you maintain it properly, and you don't mind the natural wear of real wood.
The Wilsonart laminate line is a very good line. If you are looking to get that handscraped look at a lower price, that is the way to go.

I am wanting to build a in wall book shelf between two studs but the space is too small. Is there a safe way to move one of the studs over. The most I would to need to move it over is about 2 inches. I also need to know the best way to fasten it to the the the upper and lower sill if moving it is possible. The wooden stud that I am trying to move is also damaged and needs to be replaced anyway. Thank you for your help.

How often does the average household replace carpet? Even if the carpeting doesn't look old is there a recommended time that it should be replaced.

The average household replaces carpet every 7-10 years. This is different for different rooms. A room that is used more often may get changed out more than a spare bedroom.
If the carpet doesn't look old it doesn't necessarily need to be replaced. Sometimes people buy a very good carpet that is not going to wear out for a very long time, and they just get tired of it so they change it. We call that uglying out.

I've been shopping around for carpet and I am getting very confused with square foot pricing versus square yard price. How do these units of measure differ when shopping for carpet?

Square foot pricing will always be less than square yard pricing. There are nine square feet in one square yard. For example, you get a price of $1.99 per square foot you multiply 1.99 by 9 to get a square yard price of $17.91. If you get a price in yards then divide by 9 for square foot price.

I recently cleaned a stain on my carpeting using some Woolite Pet cleaner, the place where I cleaned it was a little lighter, like it bleached it a little bit. This has never happened before, even with the same cleaner on the same carpet. Is it possible the white color is just soap? Or perhaps I left the cleaner on there too long and it is bleached? What is the bst way to fix it? thanks in advance!

Both instances are possible. The first thing to do is to rinse the area with plain water thoroughly to remove any residue from the cleaner. Using white towels or paper towel to blot up as much water as possible and then take about a 1 inch stack of toweling and weight it down on the area for a few minutes to soak up any water left after blotting. If the spot is still there when the area is completely dry it is possible that the area faded. If it was a pet stain it is possible that the stain itself faded the color and wasn't visible until the stain was cleaned. It is also possible that the cleaner faded the area. Unfortunately it is hard to say which is to blame, the best thing to do if rinsing the area does not work is to contact a flooring store and ask them to put a "plug" in your carpet. You need to have a leftover piece of carpet for this, the stained area will be cut out and the new piece "plugged" in. If you do not have any "leftovers" you can also have them remove a piece from a closet and swap the piece from the closet with the stained piece. Now your faded area is hidden in a closet where it will not be easily seen!

We have light-oak kitchen cupboards, a tan counter and a tan striped wallpaper. We need a new floor and want to brighten things up. I'm opposed to a wood or faux-wood floor because it'll look too brown brown brown. Any suggestions for attractive, kid-resistant flooring that'll offset all the oak nicely?
The house is a rustic, lodge-style home.

This is all about personal preference. What I think would be best is to look for a lighter colored stone tile. The light color will brighten things a bit, and the the stone will tie in to the rustic style home.
